After loading Notifications app on your watch, you can set the time on your watch by issuing: "python tools/set_time.py". Then you can start the python host-side app and start forwarding info from the net to your watch! You can even download our sample Android project and get your Android smartphone connected to inPulse in a few minutes.

no you cannot, its a restriction because of the RIM APIs for BBM

At the moment, the content of BBM notifications cannot be accessed by 3rd party notification. There is a way to be notified on new BBM notifications, just not the content.

RIM is looking to open that up though:

Is this the same notification app that we have always used on the blackberry or a slimed downversion thats in the example SDK?

Correct, this one is the slimmed down version.

We haven't come up with a firm name yet for the full blown 'Blackberry' Notifications app (which can also be used with Android and can receive regular PulseProtocol messages). Any suggestions for the name?

I was looking for some of the clock icon's stuff to see if I can modify and put the BT notification on the floating time display... but it looks like thats a bool flag for the icon only.

Could someone post the firmware image for the latest version? Having trouble getting the compileandload.py with the sample code in the SDK to load a working example. But it does seem that I am loading a new firmware, my suspicion then is that something in my setup for the compile is wrong (missing a resource or something I'm assuming. But perhaps I could hack the python script to just load a specified firmware image.

If you run compileandload.py with -n -d [ADDR] that will download our latest notifications app from the web and send it to your watch. No other steps required.

If you just want to load a firmware, use -l [PATH]. To load resources, -r [PATH].

Notification bug i noticed today

Watchface display lists the date as March 0

from more reading this morning I suspect what I forgot to do yesterday was seperately load the resource file. You mention the -d [ADDR] option though, where are the firmware images available online? I haven't stumbled onto them yet, thanks!

The [ADDR] in "-d [ADDR]" is the Bluetooth address of your watch - you pretty much need that for any command that loads anything on the watch.

The "-n" switch downloads the firmware and installs it. Uou don't really need to know where it comes from, since the script takes care of that.

Wow, okay -n for latest version of Notification App sw. Will be trying that as soon as I get home tonight, thanks!

Arrgh, did the compileandload.py -n option to load the latest firmware on. Watch now displays the time, and has the menu options. OpenWatch however still just repeatedly displays watch disconnected. The watch is paired but not connected in the bluetooth device settings on the phone. Again, a nexus one, which I thought was on the confirmed working list. Did I have to load any resources seperate from the -n load of the latest firmware? I've tried resetting the watch and the phone in various orders to see if it was an issue of order or something but haven't been able to get it to work. Any ideas what I'm missing?

If you see a large clock on the screen on a button push then resources have been transfered successfully.

So I was thinking, it would be cool to have a selection of canned message like "ok","no","yes","in a meetting" be displayed when you click the button on a received message. This would then send a message to the phone that would autosend this out. I don't see why this wouldn't work, as you can send selection back to the phone, which is shown using the places facebook app.

This may be the first thing I try to do with the watch. Of course it would be for Android phones first, then I'll pull out one of my old BB's and see if I can do it with that as well.

I also know this may required making a custom sms app for the phones.

Should be pretty feasible with Android, @KillerTurtle. Android exposes some SMS apis so you could add a list function to inpulse and easy scroll-clickhold through a few different responses to choose your answer.

Alright so I've been playing around a lot with my watch but using it for notifications would be kinda handy. Unfortunately at this time that isn't really possible if you're using an Android phone since the watch only seems to last for about 6-7 hours. Any suggestions on how to improve the battery life of my watch? And yes I'm using the Openwatch application on my Droid2 and have contacted them as well for a solution since it's my understanding that it's their app that is causing the battery of the watch to drain so quickly.

We're working on getting our own Android app going asap. I believe that the battery life issue is some problem with Openwatch...

According to Marcel, the creator of Openwatch, the issue has little to do with Openwatch. The issue is related to the bluetooth protocol that is currently being used by Inpulse. I was requesting for suggestions on how I could improve battery life and here is what he said: "OpenWatch uses not finished parts of Bluetooth API that may affect BT stack and battery life. The only way is for Allerta to switch from L2CAP to RFCOMM that is officially supported on Android". Anyway, I'm sure you're already aware of this but I just wanted to throw that out there just in case...
