I already use Ubuntu 10.10, but I couldn't find any links to download just the simulator. I couldn't find the simulator in the SDK, and I don't really want to download the 500MB Virtual Machine Image ...

Could you add a download link for the simulator to http://www.getinpulse.com/simulator/?

Thanks!

Getting Started:

It's a VirtualBox image. VirtualBox is completely free. http://www.virtualbox.org/

VMWare's free version is more limited.

anyone got a more detail guide on the VirtuaBox? I can't find a place to import the VDI file. I when through google and multiple sites.. the steps don't match..

when I tried to add, it just gives me options for XML and Vbox... or somthing.. no VDI option.

Windows.. anyway I found out. Instead of creating a new disk, I should be selecting the VDI file. ;)

Hello,

If i can ask, why did you choose to provide an image for a VM and not a Windows build with Cygwin and a native build for MacOSX ?

The simulator was put together in a very short time period and using the VM image was the simplest method for us to give Mac and Windows developers access to it at the time of release.

I'm on a mac, and I can't figure out how to open the image with VirtualBox. Well, first I had to spend an eternity finding, compiling and installing 7-Zip. So that put me in a bit of a bad mood (-10 inPulse brownie points).

Anyways, I have VirtuaBox version 4.0.4.

When I select "import appliance", it tells me that it cannot read .ovf files. So no good.

Instructions I had to find somewhere else by googling (-5 inPulse brownie points) do not match: they say to go to the "virtual file manager" (I have a "virtual media manager" instead) and then select "add disk" - but there is no such option. And the files I see mentioned are .vmdk or .iso. There's not a .vdi in sight.

So, I'm at a loss. Am I really supposed to use VirtualBox? If so, how?

+20 brownie points to the first who can help me figure out how to get that virtual machine off the ground. Thanks!

Killer Turtle, thank you so much! With your detailed instructions I was able to start the VM with no problem! I would never have guessed that to open the file inPulse provided, I needed to press "new" - there I was, looking for "open"!

You totally deserve your 20 brownie points. And I'll throw an extra 5 for perfect clarity and timeliness. Thank you!

I was the same way took me awhile to figure out that I had to add a New refernce to the file to get it to open.

Glad it helped. To let everyone know since these worked for number3 on a Mac then they should work for everyone, as I created them using a Windows 7 machine.
