My plastic ware life and kcthien storage was a disaster until I found lock n lock. I bought the first set of (3) LNL that was 21.1 storage bin with the flip front angled top. These are amazing I now have 12 of them. We filled them with Coffee, Sugar, Flour, Cocoa, Brown Sugar, Powdered sugar etc. and stacked them all in two high stacks on a pantry shelf. Because they are angled in front with the flip top, you can keep a scoop inside and flip the bottom one open without moving the top one. I never have to take out anything for baking because it's all accessible with a scoop- the flip opening is wide enough and tall enough for a full cup scoop or larger, if they are not double stacked, you can lock the lid in the open position, which I do with the coffee one for scooping multiple scoops. I put the coffee and sugar on the counter next to the coffee pot with scoops and everything is so neat and easy to get to without ever moving it around. It is next to a window and the sink where I tend to get ants and have never had a single on in the giant sugar bin or any of the others. Plus, being clumsy, I dropped the flour when putting it in the pantry and have dropped the coffee twice after refilling it and have never had a lid come off. This hooked me and at last I am buying other sizes for other storage. As for airtight, or not .you have to put the top on starting in the front on the angled containers. Lock the front, sides, then back. If you start in the back, you have to pull forward to get the front in place far enough. I thought there was a problem the first time it happened (after having them for a while) but when I put them on from the back, they are perfectly air tight and easy to put on and lock they have always been airtight since I figured that out. Eventually, I will get some for leftovers that will be graduated sizes for nesting in the cabinets but for now I am moving on to clean up the laundry area and workbench with some of the basic round and square. These are high quality and really fabulous and much cheaper than many of the other lock n lock similars like EMSA. Although you cannot use for microwaving, I grew up in the earlier years of microwaves when all plastic was off-limits. I happen to still feel that way, no matter what a company claims. In my opinion, you are still heating up plastic and that releases chemicals so I could care less that they are not microwave safe, in my opinion, that's just honest labeling since I don't believe any plastic is microwave safe just my opinion. I agree with the other reviewer (from another LNL item) about making them in China and sending our jobs over seas if only the corporate taxes were lower and the ability to have a manufacturing plant built without years of stalling, they could be made in the great old USA without being double the price. But I digress, that will likely never happen. FYI on the price, most sizes are much cheaper on Amazon.com than anywhere else if you have Free Prime Shipping. The shipping plus taxes on other sites are so high, it's like getting a whole set of LNL for free when I buy on Amazon plus many of them are in the 4-for-3 category which gets you a free set anyway. Of course, Prime Shipping is not actually free, but for me, I am stuck in my house due to severe illness and shopping at Amazon has given me many parts of my life back and allowed my husband to not be endlessly running errands for me, and trying to figure out what on earth I am asking for on my little lists (and big lists). Therefore, I have made use of joining the Prime Shipping club, and get the money back in the first two months of the year with groceries, etc. But I don't have any idea how much the actual shipping is since I use free Prime. With free Prims, they are MUCH cheaper here.
