In general, I have been very impressed with the potential that this watch has. Congrats to Eric and the team for powering through on a great idea and making this real.

The ability to write apps is great and the notion of connecting to your smartphone to get alerts/etc is awesome.

I am sure you get advice/requests thrown at you all the time. I STRONGLY encourage the team to put everything they can into increasing the compatible list of android phones. While I get that Blackberry might be in your backyard, you need to drop any branding association with Blackberry you might have lingering and get cracking on bluetooth compatibility and your custom android app for 2.2+ phones.

That being said, I have concerns with purchasing this watch right now (bluetooth "lottery" aside). The watch face looks sturdy enough for the type of wear you should expect with what basically is a small smartphone/computer on your wrist (i.e no swimming etc). But, I have both read and seen video reviews that show the wink link on this watch might be the pins used for the band. I get the sneaking suspicion that anything more than gingerly putting the watch on will result in the band snaping off.

Honestly, what's the deal here? Was that a bad batch that people had and it should be fixed now? Are aftermarket bands a pragmatic way to solve this problem?

Can someone post a video on putting this watch on/off repeating to assuage fears?

Any guidance on the state of affairs would be appreciated.

Thanks,

My wrist strap came off several times on the first day I wore it.

I saw the YouTube video you're referring too, and it did make me immediately apprehensive about my purchase. I was hoping the author of that video was just being overly dramatic, but I was feeling exactly the same.

On closer inspection it appears that the wrist band has some excess rubber on the end of it, causing strain to the pin on the one side of the watch. I just trimmed the excess rubber, popped the pin back in, and it's been sturdy ever since.

However, I think these wrist bands should be replaced immediately. If I had of left the house that day, it definitely would have fell off my wrist, and chances are I'd be out a very much coveted Inpulse Smartwatch. I don't think anyone should have to trim their watch band on the first day in order to ensure it doesn't spring off their wrist.

This is a first-generation product, so I can allow for some grace. But please don't ship any more of these wrist bands out, unless you trim them to fit properly taking the strain off the pin.

Otherwise, I love this watch.

Thanks JLo. That helps!

Anyone from InPulse? Are you guys seeing some extra "flashing" from the molding of the strap?

Anyone got a pic of how much to cut off, or a pic of what another aftermarket strap might look like?

I know I sound paranoid, but I have young kids that literally will come up and try to rip my watch off. Every day...

Since reading this post, I've been pulling on my watch a whole lot, and pretty forcibly and the band isn't budging at all.

after Typing that I got the band to pop off, but I must say it took alot of force and there's no way normal wear would of had it come off.

Now I gotta get it back on though. That was not easy but took me about 5 minutes, and I had to use a eyeglass screw driver. You have to get the pins back in the holes, and the band IS real tight but it's back in and just as solid as before I popped it off.

Thanks @Killer Taco.

How did it survive running over it with a car? Just kidding.

Just to update. I've been wearing mine all day today, and have taken it off a couple times to show people, and the band is still on just as tight as it was originally.

I can relate to your concern, I am particularly hard on wrist straps myself. (I've broken 3 Casio G-Shock straps and cases in the past) I generally go with metal wrist strap watches now, but I thought I'd at least see how long my strap will last before I have to replace it. I will admit today was the first full day of wearing it, but I work on and in medical equipment for a living so my watches do tend to catch on things. I did catch it on the edge of several things today, and so far it hasn't pulled out, torn, or otherwise come undone at all. I am keeping a log on my experiences with the watch for this as well as how well it works in my environment at work, and I'll be glad to let you know how it goes.

Thank you both @Strange Knight and @Killer Turtle. Helps to know that it might be something that isn't that big of a deal if you fix any excess on the band. Hopefully Allerta can tweak what they need to on future runs and this is a just "1.0" possible bug. As a developer, I "get it".

I wear a Casio G-Shock mtg910da-1v everyday as well. Scratched to heck, but luckily not broken.... Yet. :)

Congrats. I'm loving mine, and I've only had it 3 days now.

Wrist band fell off after approximately 2 days of owning it. Can't seem to get it back on. Very annoying. Wonder if I can get it swapped to something else.

I used a small jewlers flat screwd river to push the pin back into it's seat. You can use an 20mm watch band though. Also, if you look atht eband where the pin goes thru, there is a small portion of rubber tht sticks out past the hole towards tohe watch you can trim that down alittle and it should make it easier to reattach. I would take a picutre of mine, but I don't want to have to try and get it back on.

If there is enough request for it, I will pop mine off and make a video of getting it back one.

I received my watch a couple days ago and sadly one side of the wrist strap had already come out during shipping. I could not get it to go back in but I gave up after a couple minutes after the other side popped out when I was trying to get leverage.

I will try someone's suggestions of trimming the excess, which I noticed too and thought it was supposed to tuck up better. I am also in the process of looking for a replacement wrist strap.

Nice! And of course if you do, we're a quick email away to help solve any problems.

FWIW, if anyone else is planning to wear the black watch with a black metal band, there's only one I've been able to find that's the right size:

I'll update further when I've tried it out.
