Is the USB used for anything but power? Just curious.

Also, something like this design from Nike might afford better water resistance and lose the inset for the USB jack to improve aesthetics

Yes the USB port is currently only used for charging. Future hardware revisions may include using USB for mass storage and programming the watch.
