Does the bb calendar app actually work? I've got the notification software loaded on the watch, and everything works and syncs perfectly with my blackberry, except i get nothing from the calendar.

The calendar notifications aren't sent immediately...it's a loop that runs in the background and sometimes takes up to an hour to sync appointments.
